Using a prepaid debit card for making an online payment

If you want to use your debit card to make an online payment, you might be searching for the right payment option at a site. If there is no payment option for a debit card, you may be able to select the option to pay using a credit card. There is no need to specify that you are going to make an online payment with a debit card.

Payment process

The payment process typically begins by indicating the type of debit card you have, such as a Visa or a MasterCard. Then, you would need to type the sixteen-digit number found at the front of your debit card. There might also be the need to key in the expiration date that usually says that the debit card is valid through that date.

Authorizing a payment transaction

To authorize the payment transaction, there might also be the need to provide the 3 to 4 digit security code. Those security codes are usually found at the back of most debit cards towards the far right after the 16-digit card number.

Not linked to a bank account

To use a prepaid debit card is done in the same manner as those debit cards issued by the bank. The primary difference is that these are not linked directly to a bank account as these store the funds that you place into it before being used. In most cases, a prepaid debit card can be used in the same manner as a bank-issued debit card and a credit card. If there are sufficient funds in the card, it will function in the same manner, but of course, it has no credit line that can be tapped, unlike credit cards.

If you use all the funds in your prepaid debit card, you will be able to reload to add to the funds. The process for your reloading does vary from card to card, as it is possible to go to a retail store and pay for the load in cash, or you to transfer funds from your bank account.

Fees and other concerns

When using a prepaid debit card, it is a good idea to keep an eye on any of the fees that you might need to pay. These debit cards can cost more than those bank-issued debit cards. If you have concerns such as having problems with your checking account or due to credit card spending and too much online shopping that is charged to your account, it might be a good idea to use a prepaid debit card for when making a payment transaction

Easy to use, prepaid debit cards are reloadable and go everywhere that you go to. There is no need to go through a credit check for approval. It is also not necessary to own a bank account when applying for a prepaid debit card.

When you own a prepaid debit card, you will spend only what is in your account and get to reload at any time. It is a smart alternative to using credit cards, prepaid bank cards, and cash, and may come with a wide range of payment options that will suit your needs.
